Paloalto Firewall

Dear All,
we are planning to replace the actual firewall with a new hardware one.
I've looked on the Gartner and I decided to test one of the leader of the Magic Quadrant and one of the Visionaries therefore I've been testing Juniper netscreen 5500, Paloalto PA 2050
I would like to know your opinion on thardware I've mentioned to you.

Personally I liked more Paloalto, but I see that only few people are adopting the NEXT Generation firewall technology. Is it safe to adopt it ?

Thank you
Carlo

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think Juniper SRX series is a better option when compared to netscreen 550 [this is what I think when you mentioned 5500].

Choosing a specific brand is based on multiple things [this is how I would rate a product/vendor]:

1. Comfort level with product/vendor--CLI/GUI is first thing in my list. At the end of you if you are responsible for getting things done you must be most comfortable.
2. Tech support - some vendors provide 24x7 support; some do not; I would choose that does.
3. Training - if a product is new; I would be interested in training to get up to speed; read 1 again.
4. Users/cummunity - Another thing I look at these days is the number of people out there; blogs/experience even if negative are worth noting as that shows product presence and also tips on configuration. Again read 1.
5. Finally I would rate recurring cost, like support/license renewal fees/signature updates etc. If there is an updated firmware which has resolution to my problems but there is a cost involved just to upgrade; that might not go well with every organization.

Thank you.

To truely answer your question I have a bias for Juniper SRX when compared to PaloAlto.

Hello

We deeply use paloalto.

It s simply the best application firewall ever

It has been created from scratch to manage application, not ports. It does not check the port used, it uses a pattern to recognise every application.
Please give me a shot if you need more infos.
