Outlook versions that work with Exchange 2010 Online Archive

According to the info that I can gather, the only two Outlook products that allow visibility to the online archive are Outlook Standalone and Professional Plus.  This is a major headache for us, we are a small business (under 75 users) and normally just purchase the small business (home and business) or in the past we had some seats of Standard edition.  All we need is Outlook, Word, Excel & PP.

Dilemma- buying Professional Plus is considerably more expensive since we have to pay for apps that are not needed by our users such as Publisher and Access.  Buying Home and Business then Outlook Standalone is cheaper but a headache and possibly will lose some functionality.

Why M$?  This is an awesome feature, it's not enough that you need an Exchange Enterprise Cal in order to use it, but you also need to spend more on Outlook or office suite as well.

Looking for some feedback on what other people are doing with this or some suggestions.

    Accepted Solution

The feature needs to be enabled on exchange 2010 server, if you have SBS 2011 standard server you can enable this feature  but you need to buy exchange enterprise cal. You can use OWA to access archiving feature.

If you have hosted exchange service, check with your service provider if they are offering this feature and if they are then you can use OWA.

We don't use hosted Exchange and we have enterprise cals.  I am aware that it works in OWA, however I'm referring to access from Outlook.

    Assisted Solution

I've just discovered the same problem.  Got a user with OEM Office 2010 Home and Business and the Online Archive wasn't showing in Outlook, but there in OWA.

After granting the user full mailbox access to another user, I noticed they could then see that second users archive.  I thought I would then test this by granting him full access to his own mailbox and sure enough, he could then see his own archive.

Not sure if a glitch and very bizarre, but it seems to have worked and goes against everything I was finding online with regards it not working for that edition
