Adding Domain Tree to Existing Forest

I have a domain with 2 windows server 2008 R2 domain controllers (PDC is running x64, WS2008 R2, and DC2 is running x64 WS2008 DataCenter).  I need to add a domain tree to the forest.  I need the new DC to run Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86.  Both the Domain and Forest functional level is Windows Server 2008.  I have installed the OS, made sure all updates were installed.  Added the server to the domain.  Added the Active Directory Roles.  Then I ran DCPROMO.  After the Net BIOS was verified the "Active Driectory Installer" stopped working and the following are the details from that window:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:      APPCRASH
  Application Name:      dcpromo.exe
  Application Version:      6.0.6002.18005
  Application Timestamp:      49e01bcf
  Fault Module Name:      dcpromoui.dll
  Fault Module Version:      6.0.6002.18005
  Fault Module Timestamp:      49e03712
  Exception Code:      c0000005
  Exception Offset:      00080bc7
  OS Version:      6.0.6002.2.2.0.272.7
  Locale ID:      1033
  Additional Information 1:      c796
  Additional Information 2:      e622a2ccfd50850fccf0ca4b3037cdab
  Additional Information 3:      64a9
  Additional Information 4:      f8898ea814d5de483a3bf8f3e4effe32

Am I missing a step?  If I am already at a functional level of 2008, do I still need to run ADprep?
Any assistance from the Experts would be greatly appreciated.

I have figured this one out.  I guess I pushed the panic button too quickly.  I could have sworn that my functional levels were only 2008 but they are actually 2008 R2.  No 2008 DC on that domain.  Thank you and sorry for any undue efforts.
