Windows 7 Ultimate >> How to reinstall "Installer"?

Every time that I try to install a new software program, or try to download an Upgrade to an existing program, I receive a blunt "Failed" message. For example ...  I have 33 Windows Updates waiting to be installed ... two days ago they tried to install automatically [my WU settings allow this] ... however, only two were installed because of Error 641 and Error 80070641. The ones which were installed = Update Wiindows 7 for x64-based Systems, and Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)

Is there a way to reload the Windows 7 Installer a la cart [ie. Repair mode]... or do I need to reload the entire Windows 7 Operating System?

Please advise. Thanks!

I would run this though, in relation to the updates......

First launch services.msc and check whether windows installer service is started or stopped.

These are two different issue...windows updates download files in cab format and not msi format...If you are not able to install windows updates then run system readiness tool ...reboot computer and check updates.

If u have win7 64 bit then run this
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20858

If u have win7 32bit then run this
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3132

You can repair installer by installing service pack 1 update ..if it is not installed.

I'm so sorry guys ... I've misplaced the original Roxio 11 Special Edition installation disc and registration code on its envelope ... I haven't forgotten your recommended solutions, they all sound helpful, I'm really eager to try them! I just need to locate that disc! Thanks for your patience! Please stand by a little while longer.
