i just migrated a bunch of users from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010.  for some reason, users on exchane 2010 can't open mailboxes on exchange 2003.  they were able to open them fine when they were both on exchange 2003.  any ideas?

Are you trying to open two separate exchange mailboxes? If you are running two different servers of exchange 2003 and 2010 you cannot open both mailboxes at the same time from separate servers.

so i login as the user and that person's mailbox opens fine in outlook (ex2010).  from that user's outlook profile, i'm trying to open another mailbox (ex2003).

Outllok only supports one exchange mailbox at a time. You can create another profile by going to control panel ->mail ->profiles but you cannot see both at same time.

If you are trying to add by going to email accounts ->view change existing ->change ->more settings ->advanced and then add a mailbox it wont work because it can only connect to one exchange server at a time.

You will have to create another profile with a separate connection to the other exchange server even if they are on the same machine.

This may not be what you want to hear but if you migrate everything over to 2010 you won't have this problem.
