Piriform Speccy

Can Piriform Speccy  be used on some of my small networks. I am looking at the free home version but it would be used in small buisness.

I see nothing in their EULA that says no but wanted to double check. Looks like the difference between free and buisness is the support only. Am I correct on this?

From my reading of the licensing terms you are correct.

"You are under no obligation to purchase any Product support from Piriform. However, where you do so, this Licence is subject to any further limitations which may be set out in your support agreement with Piriform."

As you say, if you want support then that is when there are two different licences, and the main difference between the "consumer" and "corporate" licence really is that the company becomes responsible for misuse of the software rather than an individual, and Piriform's support obligations are to the company rather than an individual.

There isn't really that much in the licence concerning misuse anyway.  It's the usual things like decompiling, incorporating software into other software, illegal distribution, etc.  There aren't many other ways you can misuse the software.

So the free version would be legal to use on my buisness network?

    Accepted Solution

Yes, but that is only from my interpretation of all the pages I have read on their site.  If you are in any doubt then it would be easy enough to ask Piriform, but if they are doing their job properly they will try to sell you a business support package that really isn't necessary for a utility program that only shows reports.  If you look at the CCleaner Product and FAQ page you will see that they have a different "network" version for corporate use, and that the licensing is completely different for that version.  In my opinion - Yes, you can use Speccy legally on your business network without paying for product support or any additional licensing.
