User Profile Failed the Service Login

Hey everyone!

I have a laptop that has an interesting problem.

Whenever you try to login, you get an error message:

User Profile Service Failed the Login. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded

I tried to remove the password via safe mode. I was successful, but I still cannot login.

I am unable to create a new account.

I scanned for malware using Malware Bytes. I only found one infection.

AVG has failed to find any problems.

I am unable to install any new antivirus on the machine.

Any ideas guys?

Oh...this machine is running Vista.

The machine has suffered some significant corruption.

See if you can open a command prompt and run SFC /SCANNOW . Allow to complete and restart.

See, in Safe Mode, it you can Restore to a Prior Point. That may help.

Then, if you have the Vista install discs for that computer, see if you can do a repair install. That should not affect your files, but do back up first.

Finally, if nothing works, back it it and start again. It is not your machine (it appears), so do not fall into a black hole.

Hi,

You can try this first, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

If still failed AND it is possible for you to delete that corrupted profile AND you have another account then try log into that account. Delete corrupted user account and it's profile, then recreate it back from scratch.

khairil: That won't work. As I said, it won't let me create another account.

thinkpad: I tried the scan and the system restore but no luck. And like most of my clients, they did not create a recovery disc nor do they have one.

Doesn't Windows Vista have a start up repair option?

Nevermind...fixed it.

System restore wins again. For some odd reason, only one of the 20+ restore points worked...so, that's the one I used.

Thanks for your help!
