TACACS server not defined error

Switch is not connected to a network and I am preconfiguring.

The switch cannot reach server 1.2.3.4 because it is not connected to anything.

Is this error normal or is there a mistake in my config?

UTC: %AAAA-4-NOSERVER: Warning: Server 1.2.3.4 is not defined.

aaa new-model
aaa group server tacacs+ default
server 1.2.3.4
aaa authentication login default group tacacs+ local
aaa authentication enable default group tacacs+ enable

To define a single server, the command syntax is typically "tacacs-server host <ip address>".  The "server" command you're using is to associate one or more servers with a group.  It could be different depending on the platform and code you're running, but that's what I'd start with.

I found out that if I put the line "tacacs-server host 1.2.3.4" before the commands

aaa group server tacacs+ default
server 1.2.3.4

Then I no longer get the server 1.2.3.4 is not defined warning.

Did the warning mean that although I was putting server 1.2.3.4 into group default the server was not defined yet and could not be used even though it is a member of group default?

Yes, I believe you have to define the server before you can make it a member of a group.
