what is difference between lds store and ds store??

im looking at c# .net 3.5 regarding principal context type,
it includes applicaitonDirectory(lds store), domain(ds store), machine.

i am confused with lds store and ds store.
can someone please help me clarify this?

    AD DS store is for full Active Directory database whereas AD LDS is lightweight independent DS database
    Please check for this, it's in programmer language ;)

    so dose that mean application using lds does not really need domain controller?

    Actually, yes, it's true. AD LDS is motly used for AD programming/Applications development. It's completely independent instance which doesn't require AD/DCs to work properly. Each AD LDS instance can handle separate Schema, that means it's really cool for programmers in developement environments
