error with some contacts in the exchange, instead of using .com the contact is using .local to send emails

SBS 2008 on server w/ exchange 2007
windows 7 , outlook 2007 on workstation
some exchange users when sending the email to: the email is in the contact list (listed smtp.username.domain.local) are give the error above the users that are listed in the contact list as username.domain.com are ok.
