SharePoint Naming Convention in Document Library

Hi All

I have created a list and added a new document in content management and would like to know the following.

when a user fills out the document and saves it back to list is there a way i can give the document a different name everytime so that the documents do not save over each other, rather that relying on the user to rename it.

can i get it to autogenerate a number like 1,2,3,4 etc

Hello,

you could switch on Versioning for the document library. It would not add the version numbers to the document name, but it would keep a history of previous versions and they could be retrieved.

See here for details:

Is SharePoint not prompting users before it saves over an original?

It Is prompting users but i would like to keep a standard naming convention
Then I agree with ACH1LLES. This isn't available out of the box, and unfortunately you would need to look at developing a custom Feature or solution.
