Setting up a "Kiosk" in the office

We want to set up a computer at the front entrance that will show pictures; videos and events for the day.

I want the events to be pulled from a calendar in Exchange showing the scheduled events of the day as well as for the week.

Then I want it to show slide shows in between and possibly videos.

I've hunted around and Kiosk is the best description that I could find.

You can do most of this with a program called Concerto.  It's open source, I use it on one server that then feeds (via a URL) machines nationwide.  But it does require that you actually manage the content and create the images that go up there, etc.

That said - if you can get your calendar to create an RSS feed, you can display that automatically.

I just installed Concerto on a linux box at work and am trying to get it up and running.  But I think that it will be the solution.

I am still having some problems with the installation.  I can't get all of the "Diagnostics.php" to turn green.

Did you install it on a Linux machine?  Which diagnostics are giving you issues?

Here are the ones that I am having problems with

Config access: FAIL Missing config.inc.php
Common Directory: FAIL COMMON_DIR incorrectly setup, make sure it ends in a trailing '/'.
Image Upload Directory: FAIL Cannot write to IMAGE_DIR
Template Upload Directory: FAIL Cannot write to TEMPLATE_DIR

If I use a web browser to the address, I get the concert page, but it won't let me login.  I get this

The website encountered an error while retrieving It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Did you create the config file? There should be a sample config file that you can copy, edit, and rename to just config.inc.php.

That's where you'll put your database information (which you have to set up before you install).

Common directory, wherever you're installing it just put a trailing / after it.  That's in the config file.  Example:

define('ROOT_DIR', '/var/www/html/concerto/'); //server-side path where Concerto lives

Image upload, you need to make it 744, 755, or 644 permissions depending on what your server likes.

Same for template upload directory.

Once you do all of that then run the install again.
