Exchange 2010 on Server 2008 R2 Core only installation?

Is it possible to install a fully functional exchange environment on Windows 2008 R2 Standard (Core Installation)?

Yes it is.  You'd need to do the install via powershell command line as the core install does not have any gui.

I wonder then if Hosted Exchange is supported in a Core install - as opposed to the full exchange install.

no hosted exchange has the exact same requirements, just for more info exchange hosted mode will cease to exist soon

Thanks for providing data that showed how the installation would fail if attempted.  It was what I was looking for.

What is the story on Exchange Hosted going away? Do you have any info on that?

Oh I just want to add to the OP that some Exchange 2010 roles WILL install on the core edition (I have done it) but they just won't work
