Acer Aspire 5732z (Laptop pc) Touchpad does not work

Hi all,

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop pc and the touchpad mouse does not work. I installed all the drivers for the touchpad from the Acer website for this model but still no luck. I am just using a usb mouse. Could you guys provide some help?

Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to your reply.

Was it always like that or has it stopped working? Have you checked in the BIOS whether there is an option to turn the touchpad on and off? If there is no such option, boot the PC using the PartedMagic LiveCD. If the touchpad doesn't work within that OS, then there is a hardware issue. Possibly the cables connecting the touchpad to the mainboard aren't attached. You'd have to open the laptop's case to check that.

Thanks guys for your quick replies. It has stopped working now. I have checked the bios but there is no such option to turn the touchpad on or off. I have also used the key combinations  fn+f5  but still no luck.
Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot for your help.

@rindi,

PartedMagic LiveCD works on specific CPU's and I don't know how to run that.

@shbasm,

The link you provided did not help either.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I just solved the problem by pressing the touchpad toggle button near the power button by reading the user giude. Anyways thanks a lot.

You just boot the PC from the CD, you should get a GUI similar to Windows. If you can move the mouse cursor with the touchpad, then the hardware is OK. If not the hardware is bad (like I mentioned, cable got disconnected or the Mainboard/Touchpad itself is bad). If that is the case there isn't much you can do yourself (except if you still have warranty, get the PC replaced under that). Repairing it would be too expensive.
