Can't RDP to Win XP clients from 2008 r2 server

I have a new consulting job that has asked me to do some work on their network machines. I setup a VPN so that I can access their server and wanted to be able to remote from the server into each client when they needed assistance or service. For some reason I can't establish a remote connection into their XP machines from the server however, I can remote from the clients into the server. I have verified that Remote Desktop is enabled on the server and have tried turning off Windows Firewall on the server temporarily to see if that was blocking the connection. I have also verified that the client machines are listening on 3389. Their DNS appears to be setup properly but I have tried using both the host name and IP anyway. Any ideas as to what I may be missing?

You've verified that they're XP Pro machines? May or may not sound silly to ask, but you can't RDP into an XP Home box. And I've seen XP Home on office networks.

Assuming that's not it... Have you made RDP connections from one machine to another (other than the server) across the local network?
