Cant install server roles or features (Error code: 0x80073701)

Hi,

I am trying to install .Net Framework 3.5.1 on my Windows 2008 R2 PS1 file server using the add features wizard. I keep getting the following error:
"Attempt to install request filtering failed with error code 0x80073701. The referenced assembly could not be found."

I noticed that I could also not install any other roles or features on this server as I am receiving the same error for all roles and features.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I will appreciate it.
Thanks

I think you should start with

chkdsk C: /F

     and

sfc /scannow

and run System Update Readiness Tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821.

Thank for the comment.
I tried running the System update Readiness Tool but keep getting a error when installing: Installation encountered an error: 0x80073afc The resource loader failed to find MUI file.

I have downloaded it again an still get this error.

any idea?
I also cant seem to do Windows updates manually. I have attached a snip of windows update.

Check for any errors in the Event Log to see if there is anything else that can point to a possible cause of the problem. Did you run chkdsk and sfc?

I found this article http://blogs.technet.com/b/asiasupp/archive/2011/06/20/how-to-resolve-the-error-0x80073701-error-sxs-assembly-missing-when-you-are-installing-a-service-pack-or-hotfix.aspx which looks promising.
Hi,
I tried installing the hotfix suggested in the link but get a error when installing: "Installer encountered an error: 0x80073afc. The resource loader failed to find MUI file."
The event viewer got the error:
"Windows update "Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)" could not be installed because of error 2147957500 "The resource loader failed to find MUI file." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\New folder\Windows6.1-KB947821-v14-x64.msu"        ")"

I also ran chkdsk and sfc with no results.

Thanks for this,
I have tried all of the above with no luck.
My last option is to reinstall SP1. I do not really like reinstalling SP's as they normally give me hassles, but I don't think I have any option.

I will let you know if it worked.
Thanks
I final reinstalled SP1 and all seems to be in working order.
thanks.
working after reinstalling SP1
