DNS Hosts when using dual wan Internet connections

Hello Experts,

Have a SBS server running Exchange and OWA, Remote Web Workplace and other stuff.

A second internet connection for backup will be added soon and probably a Sonicwall dual unit will be installed.

Having two fixed IPs, the challenge is for all services to failover correctly.

For MX Records, I see no problem. Just add a second one pointing to the the backup IP. I guess this is the only change for SMTP incoming traffic.

But the other hosts (i.e: OWA, REMOTE, etc), how can I make them failover to the second IP?

Thanks in advance.

The first thing that comes to mind is something like dyndns : http://dyn.com/dns/

to clarify, I wonder how host.domain.com/owa can work when host can be IP1 or IP2 without having to use 2 different hosts and train 100s of users that if host1 does not work, to try host2

Thanks but that does not work and let me tell you why.

We have our own domain set that way and the DynDNS Updater does not allow anyone to set the update cycle. In our case, we have to wait up to 5 minutes for the change to happen or have to access the server running the updater to force an update.

I will not implement this kind of solution on a Client. By the way, this is not exclusive of DynDNS … most of the dynamic DNS services have implemented the same approach on its updaters.

This can't be the only option.
