Web Design Email Function - Hide address

I am taking a web design class and I need to design and build a web site as a final project.  I am considering a kind of fabric exchange site on the order of craigslist.  However, a big part of this site design would be the users sending and receiving emails from members.  The email addresses and names would need to be hidden, similar to craigslist.  I am not sure how this is done, and I'm wondering if this puts this project idea over my head.  We are required to build the site using css, html and javascript.  Can someone explain how the email "cloaking" is done?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to drive it with a database.

Each "posting" on the site would have an ID.  Your users would need to register and set up their email which you would never display.  The email sender would always be your server using member names and post IDs.

If you want to be able to have users email each other and you never want the email addresses to be displayed then you need your server to handle all the emails by referencing username and post ID, etc...
