Some users are getting a temp profile when they log in. Here are the event
logs that relate to it.

Event ID: 1508
Source : Userenv
Desc: Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by
insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.  for C:\Users\%username%\ntuser.dat

Event ID: 1502
Source: Userenv
Desc: Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of
this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.
Event ID: 1515
Source: Userenv
Desc: Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically
try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.
Event ID: 1511
Source: Userenv
Desc: Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log

Any ideas what might be causing this? The only way I've been able to resolve this each time is to reboot the server, but it happens every few days.

I ended up looking here HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

found a duplicate guid for a user (was had a.bak extension on the problem profile).  Removed that, it created a new profile and all good again.
