Hi all

Whats the best way to test an inverter i have a couple of old lcd screens.

The easiest way is to connect the inverter to the correct display and if you get a normal image the inverter is fine.

The simple answer is, "Power it up and see if the tubes light up."  Unfortunately, the simple answer is frequently not all that simple.

Ideally, inverters would have nothing but four HV output wires, and two incoming power lines, one black and one red.  In the real world, that's usually not the situation.

Most inverters do not specify anything, including their input voltage, on the case.  It is hard to guess what voltage to use for testing.

It is also frequently hard to guess which are power lines, which are control and which are ground when all incoming lines are the same color.

Things are made more complicated by the presence of control lines, which may have any kind of signal at all on them ranging from a case switch closure to a PWM brightness control signal.

So we come back to "Power up the system and see if the tubes light up."  The next step is "Swap it in-place with an known good one and see if the tubes light up."  If the panel has been removed from the host system, it's anybody's guess what goes where without the detailed technical specs for the inverter.
