Control center 3 scan letter and legal

I am using Brother Control Center 3 to scan documents. Is there a way to have the software automatically check if the document is letter size or legal size, so that I don't have to change the preferences for each scan?
Thanks.

I've had many Brother MFCs over the years, but have always used PaperPort for scanning, never the Brother Control Center. So I don't know if Control Center 3 has this feature, but with PaperPort, there's an auto-crop option that works well. I can set the Paper Size to Legal, but also select the Auto-crop option. Then when I scan a Letter size page with the Legal Size scanning profile, it comes out correctly as Letter size due to the Auto-crop feature. Well, to be precise, it comes out as the actual size of the text, plus the margin size (Small, Medium, or Large), not necessarily Letter Size (8.5"x11"). This may or may not be what you want, and on top of that, I don't know if CC3 has the feature. If it does, great. If not, PaperPort was probably bundled with your MFC, so you can give it a spin if you'd like. Regards, Joe

It doesn't look like I have that feature. Anyways, I need my documents to be either letter size, or legal size. It sounds like if I use auto-crop it will make all of my documents a little smaller.

OK, here's another idea. One great aspect of using PaperPort instead of Control Center is that you can set up multiple scanning profiles with different parameters. For example, you can have a profile called <B&W Searchable PDF Legal> and another one called <B&W Searchable PDF Letter>. Then you don't have to change preferences with each scan, as it sounds as if you have to do with CC3. You'll scan in PP with two mouse clicks – one on the profile name and one on the Scan button. Btw, what version of PaperPort came with your MFC? Regards, Joe

I don't know if we have PaperPort. I have Control Center 3 set up with different profiles, but sometimes I have a big pile of documents that is of mixed sizes, that I want scanned into one pdf. That's why I want the program to figure it out for me. Also, it would be a nice perk not to have to remember to select the appropriate profile.
Do you have any ideas?

So when you scan a big pile of docs with some letter and some legal size pages, you want all of the pages to go into the same PDF file, but instead of having all legal size pages in that PDF, you want the pages to retain their sizes – some letter, some legal. Is that right?

Yes, exactly! Do you know if this is possible?

Yes, it's possible with a feature called Auto-size Detection. But I looked in my Brother software user guide, and couldn't find this feature in CC3. When this feature does exist, it's typically available as a setting in the TWAIN driver (true of some Fujitsu scanners I've used). I don't have this feature in my Brother MFC TWAIN driver and I'm sure it's not in yours. There are third-party solutions with Auto-size Detection, but none that I'm aware of that work on Brother devices. With a Brother device and CC3, I think you'll have to accept that all pages in the PDF file will be legal size. Regards, Joe

Thanks.
I'm going to leave this question open for another day or so in case anyone else has any ideas.
