I have an IBM System x3550 1u Server with two 750Gb drives Mirrored.  Drive 0 is reporting bad so we purchased a replacement.  Is this hot swappable? In other words, should I be able to keep the server live, take out the defective drive, then insert the new drive?  Then the mirror should rebuild? (Windows 2008 Server r2)

This server should support hot swap. Make sure you have a backup before exchanging the drive.

I noticed the IBM Director is not installed in the unit.  Would that be helpful?

It would as you would see the progress of rebuild, but hot swap will work without.

No definitive answer. Just that it "should" work.
