Sharepoint User not found

We recently upgraded to Sharepoint 2010 and now I have a user who can not access his account.
I've tried to access his page as well and get the attached error.
His name shows in the site collection list as a viable user site so what would cause us not to be able to access his mysite? SharepointError.pdf

Open central admin site
click on Securities-->>Specify web application user policy

here add the user you want and provide him the permissions

Is it a permissions issue when we get an error stating the user wasn't found?

I added the person into the policy permissions and still got the same error - see attached ErrorAfterAddtoPolicy.pdf

Thanks. That link does look very helpful.  We're in the process of rebuilding the SQL backend so our Sharepoint is "down for the count" right now.  I'm hoping this rebuild will resolve some (if not all) of the issues we've been encountering but if not, I'll keep this in my arsenal.
Hope to have an update for you early next week.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this question.  The SQL backend rebuild did resolve a lot of the issues.  I haven't been getting into Sharepoint on a regular basis so I'll actually have to "re-visit" our setup to see if things are still broke.
I'll enter a new question at a later time if necessary
