convert server from XenCenter 5.6 and bring it into ESXi 4.1 farm

We have a few servers on our network that were previously built in a XenCenter. The version is XenCenter 5.6 feature pack 1. The current IT staff is not very familiar with Xen and we would like to convert them to VMWARE and bring the servers, including a DC,  into our ESXi 4.1 farm if possible. I have used the stand alone converter to bring vmware to vmare before and I know about P to V, but is it possible to bring a Xen server over to VMWARE? All advice welcome

    Accepted Solution

    Yes, you would use exactly the same process to V2V a Xen Server to a VMware Virtual Server, hence the term V2V.

    Just treat the Xen Virtual Server as if it was a Physical Server, installing VMware Converter Standloane on the actually Xen Virtual Server to be converted and convert.

    so you are making it sound like I just;
    1. remote to the virtual server that is in XEN
    2. download and install the converter
    3. open the converter and go to convert machine
    4. leave the dropdown at vmware infrastructure and virtual machine
    5. enter the IP of the machine I am converting and login
    6. click next and pull it into the farm and vmware will do the rest??

    Sounds too good to be true, but you have been right on everything else...thanks
