HELP! About to update my iPhone 4 OS to Apple iOS 5

We have iPhone 4 with version 4.3.5. (8L1) and want to update to the new iOS 5.

The problem we face is that when we connect we get message that all our apps in iPhone will be deleted.

We have colleagues that just connected and then got update.

    - How can we update without deleting our apps?

    -  How big is the OS file to be download and how long is the update will take?
(we were told that it takes a long time)

Please advice and clear our doubts.

Your phone will be backed up, wiped out, updated and then restored. Your apps and data will be back and will should take less than 30 minutes.
I did this earlier today. It worked flawlessly.

Yes the iPhone do sync to my iTunes on my Windows 7 Pro PC on a daily manner.

When u did the update, did u get this message?
That is the correct message and warning for the process that will take place. The message I got would have been the same but it would have looked a little different on the different platform. I've done enough iPhone upgrades, that frankly today, I just blew right it today without reading it because I was expecting it.

Go for it. It will work! You won't lose data. You will just lose use of your phone for a bit.

one last question.  My home connection is around 600kbps.  How large is the file and after downloading it, how long it take to install?

Found a DL calculator online. Cause the math was killing me.

Looks like just over 4 hours.

As I tried to state before. Your phone won't be affected by the download until the DL is complete and you actually initiate the upgrade.

Tried to restore the apps (see pic).  I don't see any Apps to be restored, only Contacts, Calender, Notes, Text, and settings.

but the list displayed in the itunes doesnt have all the apps that were in my iphone.

You mean that by licking 'Sync Apps', all my previous iPhone apps will be installed?

(my concern is based since the pic u see at ID: 37063525 is not the apps that were ninstalled in my phone and there is a lot apps missing there)

That was the problem, I didn't do a sync before and the process didn't do ask ether.

Ny any chance, would have been possible iTunes backed up prior updating?

yeah that's what I did... but what i can remember in names.

Do you know if by any chance, would have been possible iTunes backed up prior updating?
At this point it is unlikely. But if your main concern is recovering apps, then you should be able to go back to the iTunes Store and get a history of what was previously downloaded.
