Best Windows remote desktop support for end user newbies.

What is a good free or fair priced Windows application where you can perform remote desktop support for end user's that do not know how to fix their Windows computer?

I am looking to support end users that do not know much about computers.  I need something that I can have them download to their computers quickly so I can support them right away. I would be willing to configure a product like UltraVNC to make it easier for end user installation, but still seems to be small challenge to do this.

I am looking into Teamviewer which i have used a lot. How is Bomgard or something spelled like this?  It seems that UltraVNC and TightVNC are good choices for setting up with port forwarding. I have done the port forwarding a few times, but since not quite sure how that completely works.  Can someone explain this?

Also, any suggestions on remote support applications and please tell me what you have done with it and why you like?  I am looking for names of software, but listing it does not really help anyone understand why you picked a specific software.

Thanks.

For security reasons I use Logmein123 - it is easy to use, no installations required.

I have used Teamviewer support version - it is also easy to use as there not too many requirements from the user to get it to work.

Hi
DameWare NT Utilities V6.8.1.4 has an app included "DameWare Mini Remote Control". This application is capable of connecting to the "Console" screen on Windows XP, Windows Vista and 7without disconnecting the current user.
DameWare covers the problem with dual/multiple screens and the mouse pointer. It also has some very useful AD Tools.
Here is the link to download: http://www.dameware.com/downloads/

The easiest software I have found is CrossLoop. Easy to download and simple to use. Not too much functionality - and even the oldest of computer users can install and run it.

To download it: https://www.crossloop.com/download.htm?src=hp

I use Mikogo (http://www.mikogo.com)

Its free, fully functional in the same league as Logmein and even has session recording.

Once installed on say your machine, they would need to go to join.mikogo.com and input the session id and password - from there you get as much or little control as you configure in the software.

You mentioned TeamViewer and it is one of the best. A user can go to teamviewer.com, downloads, download instant user, give you the ID and passcode and you have a connection. Can't get any easier than that.

The only issue with Teamviewer is - it is not as simple and clear to use as CrossLoop. That is what I have found. With CrossLoop you install it, give the pass number and hit connect on both ends and you are done.

The interface is very easy to use much easier than TeamViewer or LogMeIn in fact.

Thanks for letting me know about Crossloop.  The only thing that I initially see is that there is a link on the website that could stir away your work or business to someone else.  There are a lot of people that are willing to work online to resolve your customer problems.  This would be a reason to stay away from this.  I would like to see other alternatives.

In certain case, I would be willing to work with UltraVNC and TightVNC, but I'm not quite sure how to set that up.  It would require to place port 5800 and/or 5900 on port forwarding for the router.   Any thoughts on how to setup the port forwarding?

Does Mikogo require the end user to be in front of the computer to always provide a session key?  Is there a mode on Mikogo that allows complete remote access?  If I reboot the computer, can I still be in session or have access to the remote computer using Mikogo?  Thanks for any suggestions.

TeamVieweer has a product for unattended servers which also works on PC's, laptops, etc. and does what you are looking for.

DameWare Has both options for the user to accept your your connection and untended connection if required. But reading the tread direction it seems like this is for private support/network/connections and not corporate networks? Not sure if I'm missing the point. If this is not Corporate network I would suggest the comment made by OOsorio: It is realy easy to use and even secure (I know that in Eset Nod Security uses it to support their customers in the country I live in - South Africa)

An additional advantage of TeamViewer is that it also supports other than Windows platforms.

Thanks for all of your responses.  I need to investigate this further since I am trapped on purchase price for TeamViewer.  I am still looking for something easy to install for the end user without much support for installation.  It sounds like Teamviewer and LogMeRescue are the best choices for easy install.  It is sometime more cumbersome to get people to just install the product into the computer so that I can get "rocking" in the actual work.  If you have any more suggestions, I would appreciate it.  Please send them to me
