Change Witness Server

Hi i have 2 cluster server with exchange 2010 sp1 installed . i have 1 my primary witness server. i configured second witness server on my xp machine. i also add xp witness folder in my DAG. I want to know what is the way to change the 1st witness folder to another as a primary?

you can do that by changing the DAG properties.

open Exchange Management Console -> Org config -> Mailbox switch to the database availability group tab and right click properties on you dag name you will find the file share witness config there and you can change it

Yes i was found when i try to change the witness server i got the following error. How can resolve the issue?

what are you trying to change it to ? is dc.geo.com the old or new name ?

dc.geo.com is a older name. before i was try to change older to new (slq1.geo.com) but it was unsuccessful. i got the same like this error. after i again reverse my change to new to older . and i got the above error.

i noted one think , when add my alternate witness server , in cluster manager under core resource the IP of DAG is automatically shit to DHCP. Why it happen like that? After it happen , Manually i assign the DAG IP. .

is "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" group has been added to the local adminstrators group of windows XP machine?

Can Plz Check the Event viewer and give us the Error ID if you find one.

DO NOT add an alternate share witness, run the command i gave you and give me the results

Exchange Trusted Subsystem is a computer group, and your existing exchange servers are member of that group. Try to add the dc.geo.com into the group.

1) You should NOT create an alternate share witness
2) The machine hosting the sharewitness should NOT be part of the Exchange Trusted Subsystem
3) the Exchange Trusted Subsystem should be in the local admin of the share witness server

When i run the above command i got the following result and i also automatically my DAG ip change manual to DHCP. Note i dont have the DHCP server thats why i re assign the ip every time manually.

we are back with 2 share witness name! did you assign an alternate share witness?

I did tell you not to do it didn't I ? you do NOT need an alternate share witness in your case

Yes , Sir you are right, but i just want to know how to create and what are the implication of that and other why happening DAG IP automatically change into DHCP when i shift witness server?

I also posted 1 more question regarding delivered receipts problem . can u look that question because that problem i am facing on my production server.

Ok now that you have learned enough can I suggest you destroy your dag and do it again cleanly ?

Where are you saying it is changing back to DHCP ? where are you seeing this ?

The above means you have a problem with you cluster it is not seeing the name DAG online.

Run cluster group from cmd and give me the output

as you see the available storage is offline, you have an issue with your cluster and sice you are still testing I suggest you start over in a clean manner
