Hard Disk not recognised

I am reinstalling Windoe XP on a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop. I have a full XP disk (that Ihave used many times before) and I have tried three different Sata hard disks in the laptop. I have even tried a newly formatted one. However XP comes up and says that there are no hard disks installed in the laptop - even tho 'it has benn recognised in the BIOS - What is happening??

have you used same XP source with the same laptop model ? it's possible that you need to press S and supply SATA driver through setup.

Or you could check the BIOS setting of your laptop and check if it gave you an option to change the HDD mode to IDE from AHCI or SATA

Your best bet would be to use an XP Disk from Dell
download it from dell web site and have it on a floppy diskette.
