Create vlan on Cisco 4506

I know how to create vlans but for some reason it is not working properly on a Cisco 4506.  I created the vlan using

int vlan 3
no shut

I assigned an ip address to it and added a port.  It shows in running config but does not show when running show vlan or show int vlan 3.

So I deleted it and added it this way:

vlan database
vlan 3
apply exit

This time it showed when running running show vlan but was not in the running config nor in the routing table as connectd.  So I added it to the running config by running int vlan 3 and it shows in the running config but does not show as a connected network and when I run show int vlan 3 it is down/down

You need to:

Conf t
vlan 3
name Test
exit
interface vlan3
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0
no shut

interface fax/x
switchport access vlan 3

Then plug something into the port to bring it up. Then interferace vlan 3 will show up/up.

vlan database entries do not show up in the regular config, and are deprecated.
Create vlans in the config with

vlan 3
name SOMENAME

then create the vlan interface for IPs as you tried yourself,

int vlan 3
ip add 10.1.2.3 255.255.255.0
