What is the best way to create a vmware vm appliance with my software installed on it?

Hi,
What is the best way to create a vmware vm appliance with my software installed on the vm?
I just installed VMware studio, but the web interface only allows you to create a vm appliance with only the OS?  If i have a running vm, could i somehow create a profile from it to create a vm appliance (ova file)?

Thanks
Jamie

Do you want to create an appliance?

Check this article

You can export a VM to an appliance using the vSphere Client

ASKER

The "export ovf template" option in the vSphere client is grayed out. How do I enable it?
are you using connected to vCenter, direct to host?

what version?

free or licensed?

I am connected to vCenter 5, on Esx5, vSphere client 5
I did select the VM.  "Export OVF Template" is disabled.....
I found out why. I hate to shutdown the VM.

Thanks!
i had to shutdown the VM
If i export the vm this way, "export ovf template"  from vsphere client, could I send this to our customers where it will be deployed on different esx servers, network, storage?
If the appliance contains ANY Microsoft Licensed software you will need to check the Licensing, as this could be seen as software piracy! As you do not have the right to distribute.
