You can download codec from here:
1. K Lite, http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
They have codec for most video format, which will allow your apps to play that video format.

2. DIVX, http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
Divx also offer a lot of codec too, and they do have player by their own.

I have not had a single codec issue for the last 3 years with this codec pack.

There is a great open-source media center application called XBMC.

You may want to check it out at http://xbmc.org/download/

the problem here is WMV3> the ASF.
Did installing ac3 solve that?

Also did you save these first to your desktop? since they are within the temporary internet folder?
Save it first.
Codec status is undetermined which means the location maybe a problem or you may need to upgrade WMP9 to WMP 11 if you have XP and WMP 12 windows 7 and Vista

the link was to offer you choices but I wouldn't recomend it now that I know you have WMP 12 and windows 7 Ultimate
idmcape WMP 12 should have played them, is WMP your default player?
 if they play now no worries.
I have windows 7 prof and WMP 12  plays most things,
 I had to assign the video in the files types.
I only installed AC3 and ffdshow codecs

Interesting! Now one more thing...it seems Ii have to reboot to get it to play after closing browser (after having played ok). Can you possibly tell me how to fix that? Thanks so much! I am using Firefox 5 right now. But tried with IE9 and seems to do same thing. Ii hit the AC3 filiter again before opening but that doesn't help. Must reboot.

wmv files seem to open reliably now. But asf files do not.

Problem is that asf files work once after reboot but if Ii close browser and try to re-open the asf files no longer work. However, the wmv continute to open and work fine.

I've tried clearing cache...doesn't help. Here is location of one of non-working files. (Ii am use AC3 filter also.) http://c556439.r39.cf2.rackcdn.com/mrobinson.asf

Hi dmcape are yu trying to play this in wmp?
is it imbedded in a web page?
My WMP doesnt support or allow me to drag and play
this file is a htm it plays in VLC for me
Try VLC download it then open then go to view tick >playlist
drop the URL onto VLC playlist
then double click it
it wil play it
