Could you go into a little more detail about what exactly is slow about it.
Does the whole machine freeze?
Is it just max?
etc

Also could you please supply some details about your hardware; memory, graphics card etc.

It is only the 3ds max I have a descent system with core i7 990 extreme asum rampage mob and 16 gb ram enough hard space .quadro fx 4000 gpu

Well your hardware is up to spec.
Is your version of Max legitimate?
Have you the latest Service Pack from Autodesk.
Do you have the latest NVIDIA driver for your Graphics card?
Do you have the performance drivers from NVIDIA for Max?
What graphics driver are you using for Max (Direct 3d/OpenGL)?
Is the machine stand alone or are you accessing resources over a network?

Also:

Are you using any third party renderers or plugins?

OK.
To help you any further I am going to need a whole lot more information about your environment; "Am acessing resources but I also run other apps over the network with out problem" doesn't tell me anything useful i'm afraid.

As far as Direct3d or OpenGL goes - you should know what driver you are using: It's either going to be the Niterous, OpenGL or Direct3d. I would imagine it's the 'Nitrous' driver. Look in your preferences. Have you tried all three?

OK as a rough guess I would say that yur installatin has been corrupted if the driver does not 'see' your 3dsmax application as being applicable to the accelerator software. I would switch drivers to the 'nitrous' driver and see if that allows the accelerator software to be installed.

Failing that, it's a complete re-install of max. Making sure that you completely uninastall correctly, delete any folders in 'programs', delete any folders in your 'my documents' and 'appdata' folders, then run some sort of registry cleaner.

From memory there are files in your user profile ->AppData ->Local (Autodesk folder that holds all your max settings). There is also a folder under Documents called 3dsmax. You can also check the Program Files -> Common Files folder.

Unfortunatly there is no 'cleanup' script from Autdesk for this product and the uninstall is a little forgetfull about what it put and where.

Let me know how you go.
Is the program installed locally or installed on a server that you are trying to run the program from? Based from your previous answers it appears that you are trying to run the program from a network resource which would cause the slowdown, correct me if i am wrong.

Also do you have service pack 2 installed for 3d max, as this was recently released.

Finally, open the task manager before attempting to run the program and see what change on your system's cpu and ram usage once the program has been run.

Go to; >Customise >Preferences >Viewports >Choose Driver

I would try all three and do some testing...
