Unable to view external email in shared inbox

Environment:Server 2003, Exchange 2003 Enterprise, Outlook 2010, WinXP.

Situation: A user with publishing editor privileges is unable to view ANY external emails in the shared users inbox. The user can view ALL internal email in the inbox. No other users are affected and this only occurs for the user with one specific mailbox. Additionally logging in to OWA using the users credentials and opening the shared mailbox produces the same result. Internal emails are viewable but no external emails are visable.

Troubleshooting performed: The users Outlook profile was deleted and recreated. The sharing permissions were removed and re-added. Permissions in AD were removed and added on the shared users mailbox.

Any help in resolving this dilemma will be greatly appreciated.

A call was placed to Microsoft Tech Support Exchange team. The Exchange team evaluated and determined there was no precedent and the issue had never been seen before. The shared mailbox was removed from Outlook and added again. This has always in the past resolved the issue for a short period of time. The best assessment was that the two mailboxes were too large (both over 10GB) and possibly Exchange/Outlook was unable to view that much data? Suggestion was made to move the mailbox in question to a new mailbox store. A migration to Exchange 2010 is planned for Jan 1 2012 so we will wait.
Awarding points because the solution agrees with Microsoft Exchange support team
