You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder

I am trying to delete a folder within C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository.

I am greeted with the error "You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder".  I have tried with 2 different user accounts that have local administrator priviledges but cannot remove the folder.

I am having trouble with an HP printer driver and I want to remove a folder within this location and start again

You need to stop print spooler   service and then try deleting the folder

You can also try this fixit.

Close all apps and then run this fixit.

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/printing_problems/

Reboot computer and check.

What makes you think that deleting that folder will fix your problem?  I'd procede with extreme caution if I were you.

That said, you should be able to change permissions/ownership on the folder and delete it that way.

I managed to solve my own problem in the end.  I took permission of the 'FileRepositry' folder.  I was then able to change permissions on the particular driver folder I needed to access and removed the folder
