car charger and cell phones

if you have a cell phone and car charger for it, is it guaranteed that you will be able to do the same in any car across the world (in different countries)..

I am assuming all cars run on 12v battery and will have the same car charger receptacle.. is that assumption correct?

Yes, it should work without issue.

I think most modern cars are 12v with a body ground.  That hasn't always been the case, and there may be one-offs here an there but I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes 100% with 12 volt - (negitive) earth cars.
Be careful as some older cars had + earth and very older cars use 6 volt and trucks use 24 volt

Hpe ths hlps.

P.S. if you talking about cigarete lighter adapters (chargers) they are all 12 volt - earth regardless of the vehicles battery output.

Africa and the Middle East could have various results.

a. Some older Land Rovers and heavy-duty trucks have 24 volt electrical system. Modern standard is 12 volt.

b. The plug sizes should be standard. If you're renting a fairly modern car (i.e. manufactured in last 20-30 years).

c. There can be a very slight difference in the size of the car cigar lighter receptacle of less than 1mm (1 millimeter) in diameter. The total overall diameter being close to 20mm. I do not see this as a problem considering the "springy" construction of the adapter plug. The voltage polarity seems to be standard whether American or European.
                  1. That could explain why our adaptor wouldn't stay in our lighter receptical while on safari. Everytime we hit a bump (which was quite often)the charger would come flying out, thus making it virtually useless.

*Most* vehicles are 12 volt, a few are 24 volt and mine? The cigarette lighter in every vehicle I've owned has not worked - so I suppose that would be 0 volts - ha!
