1.Upload flash file (.swf) to Document Library. (For e.g.: wolf.swf is the file, I have uploaded to my    Document Library)
2.Add a Content Editor Web Part to your page.
3.Click Source Editor.
4.Paste the following code there:

<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"     codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0"
        WIDTH="550"
        HEIGHT="400">

    <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="/Shared%20Documents/wolf.swf">
    <PARAM NAME=WMODE VALUE="Transparent">
    <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE="high">

    <EMBED src="/Shared%20Documents/wolf.swf"
           quality="high"
           wmode="transparent"
           WIDTH="550"
           HEIGHT="400"
           TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"

As you can see I've entered the code (I've also tried in-between the div tags) and saved the post as draft.  However, the SWF file isn't displayed and if i edit the post again and look at the source, the code isnt there aswell.  Any ideas why ?

read the above again and follow the instructions. You put the code into a text field of a list. The instructions describe adding a content editor web part to a page and placing the script in there via the Source Editor.

Thanks for all your help guys.  I managed to work it out from what you said.  I search youtube for content editor web part and found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYIHQUO1JXw

I've never used this part of youtube.  Thanks.
