Scanner software detect letter vs legal

Does anyone know of a scanning software that can detect whether a document is letter size or legal size and save it accordingly? I would like to be able to scan a pile of documents of mixed letter/legal size into one pdf file, where each page is the appropriate size.

etech0,

I won't participate this time around in the hopes that some other Experts will jump in, but one question that may help the others: how much are you willing to spend on the software? This is an important point, because some software that can do it (with the Auto-size Detection feature) is relatively expensive, such as Kofax Virtual ReScan (VRS):
http://www.kofax.com/vrs-virtualrescan/

This costs $650 for use with a desktop scanner and $1,450 for use with a workgroup scanner:
http://www.kofaxshop.com/

The reason I didn't mention this the last time around is that it doesn't work on Brother devices, but perhaps other Experts will know of a software solution that does work with Brother machines. Btw, here's the list of scanner manufacturers with which Kofax VRS works (of course, not with all of their scanners):

Kofax VRS supported scanner manufacturers
I'll bow out for now and wish you good luck in finding a solution. Regards, Joe

We're really looking for something free or near that.
If you don't mind to write a small program, say in Delphi or VB you can download an SDK from http://www.gdpicture.com. You can use it free for 30 days.

Thanks for answering. What's SDK?

It stands for Software Development Kit. You may use an SDK to add functionality to programs so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Here's a decent definition of it:

There are many imaging/scanning SDKs out there. Regards, Joe
