I got this error when opening a webpage with Firefox.

I opened a webpage, www dot espn dot com, more sports, horse racing.
I got this error:
Action Script error #2030 (from @flash.net)
End of file encountered.

A few seconds later, after the time it took to write down the message, the photo opened up.

Why was there a delay and what does that error mean, and what to do about it.

Thanks.

EOF usually means it could have been a corrupted script.  I am navigating there now to see if I can see the same problem and analyze it, what browser are you using and what version of flash?
I just tried are you still able to reproduce that error?

I don’t know why you cannot uninstall a debugger version of FP and download from Adobe website a Flash Player plugin for avoiding getting any errors in SWF files? Nobody can fix errors from external websites

What is Java's involement in the errors?
Hi nickg5,
Before I am asking you installing a Flash Debugger for validation if any problems you are running SWF on FireFox. Now we found issues on some pages. I am every day getting the same errors such as Nullpointyer exception or problem reading local files etc. All those problems related implementation of code or backward compatibilities of the Flash Players.  I always checking what the problem (that possible only via Flash Player Debugger) and clicking a “Dismiss” button, but if that bother you, please uninstall Debugger version and use consumer, but in this case you will get some SWF files hangs without notifivation.
Avatar of nickg5

ASKER

I may have the consumer version, already, not sure.

I've never had these errors and I have used Firefox and Flash for years.
Suddenly they do not work together (?)
Ok, let's check open this website

from player version dot com:

WIN 11,0,1,152
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the way, it took many, many days to get my computer to let me download Flash to begin with. I had to remove it to stop a problem. It was a long drawn out matter, on other threads. I finally was able to get Acrobat from filehippo dot com as it would not download from Adobe dot com.
Then I could not get Flash from any website.
I had to turn off MSE, disable my firewall and disable my UAC.
So, getting the version of Flash that I have was a problem.
Once I got it on my system, then Firefox kept prompting me to download it and the install would always fail or be blocked.

So, I should have the latest and the most compatible version.
Untitled22.jpg
Yes, you have a consumer version mine is WIN 11,0,1,152 (Debug player)

Your Flash Player version is
WIN 11,0,1,152 (Debug player)
Your browser is Gecko engine (Mozilla, Netscape 6+ etc.) on the Windows platform.
The latest Flash Player versions are

    Linux: 10.3.183.11
    OS X: 11.1.102.55
    Windows:

As I mention the problem with the consumer version you cannot get prompting an error dialogs in SWF and site can freeze without notifications
You have to make a decision do you want controlling continue running Flash Player on the website by clicking “Dismiss” button in the Flash P)layer debugger or restart a FireFox when page is freeze.
But nobody can help you to resolve issue on the site what running such problems
Avatar of nickg5

I do not understand my choices.
The pages do not lock up, I get intermittant errors like mentioned in the question.

Above you said:
The problem in the SWF files if you don't want to get such errors uninstall Flash Player debugger and install consumer version
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Now:
As I mention the problem with the consumer version you cannot get prompting an error dialogs in SWF and site can freeze without notifications.

The first says to stop the errors, uninstall the Flash debugger.
The second says the errors won't appear if I have the consumer version.

I do have the consumer version.
So, why do I want to un-install the debugger, which was recommended on the other thread, if the un-install will cause page freeze ups.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have to make a decision do you want controlling continue running Flash Player on the website by clicking “Dismiss” button in the Flash P)layer debugger or restart a FireFox when page is freeze.

I do not understand the above.
a. what website?
b. what dismiss button?
c. what site?
d. running what problems?

Maybe it is the way it is written in the English language.
I can not interpet what that paragraph means.

It is intermittant.

You use the phrase "my website" alot, and to me that means my personal webpage.
I have no personal webpage.

Firefox + Yahoo Sports and Espn dot com and others, but the Flash errors are intermittant. Now and then, over a period of a week.

I could go to Firefox now, and web serf for 12 hours straight and may not get the errors.
All the Flash errors I have been getting are posted above.
I am not asking a link to your personal website.

I just want to know if you have any specific site when you are executing errors in Flash Player?

---

----

Nothing is perfect and if you are getting errors that means three problems
1)      Who wrote SWF is idiot and didn't test an application on the web
2)      SWF file had  written for old Flash Player version and maybe backward compatibility is not supporting old API (sometimes it’s happening)
3)      You are using old version of SWF
1 and 2 I cannot help to resolve it, but for 3 we have a nice workaround
As you may know the browsers caching static contexts as well as SWF files and in most cases when backend API updates and new SWF file(s) loaded on the server you may not get latest version. That is causing Flash Exceptions. The simple way to clear a browser  cache and reload a website

Which version of Firefox and Flash do I need?

What settings do you mean in your comment #2..?

I had Flash issues a few weeks ago on another thread.
I had to remove all Adobe products from my system.
I then got Acrobat from filehippo dot com.
I could not get it from Adobe dot com. Windows blocked the download-install.
I then tried to get Flash. Windows would not allow the download.
I tried Adobe dot com, as well as filehippo dot com, and CNET (formerly downloads dot com)
I had to disable my User Account Controls and firewall and MSE and finally I was able to get Flash.
Which versions: latest for both.

Settings: things like saved passwords, cookies.

Adobe blocked: that should not be and you may have other, more severe problems with your system.  I would not trust Flash or shockwave from third party sources.

Windows Vista blocks downloads from Adobe dot com, unless I disable my UAC.
Some error, like it is not safe, or about some "certificate" from the publisher.

Also, last time, after installing Flash using IE 9.0, when I would open Firefox, and try to watch videos, it was prompting me to install Flash.

So, each browser requires separate Flash?

Another member gave me filehippo and he had used it for years.
I have used downloads dot com for years too. (CNET)

Thanks.
>> So, each browser requires separate Flash?

Each browser uses a slightly different plugin. When you download the flash player from Adobe, it will prompt for OS and browser and you install per browser.

You still shouldn't have any issues with adobe.com though. If you are getting certificate errors and having it blocked, it usually indicates a more fundamental problem on your system.  Either you have something wrong with the OS or malware or both or another oddball issue.  I have a feeling we are treating the symptom and not the disease here.

I would urge you to give this question a rest for a few days and in the meantime ask a new one in the Vista zone dealing with the blocking of adobe.com and certificate issues.  If you fix that, it might make this question moot.

From another of my questions:
1. IE and Firefox use two different plugins to run Flash.
2. Please download and install Download the for FireFox plugin
Windows Flash Player 11. Plugin content debugger (for Netscape-compatible browsers) (EXE, 3.89MB)
The person who gave the advice above (2.) now says remove the debugger.
Then later on in this thread, the one you are reading now, he says install the debugger.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From another question which was:
Why does Microsoft Security Essentials tell me that Adobe Flash is unsafe?
The accepted answer was:
have you disabled uac???
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, from 1. above, since IE and Firefox need different plugins, how many downloads will that be?
A Flash for IE and download an IE plugin too, or does the plugin come with the Flash player?
Same question for Firefox.

Do I need one copy of Flash and then 2 plugins or 2 Flash and 2 plugins?

UAC disabling is the only way I could download from Adobe dot com.

So, neither Flash player (for IE and FF) come with the proper plugin?

Flash installs in one of two ways.  There is a browser-based plugin that will try to install when you access a page with flash on it (per browser) and there is also a standalone flash player that also has a plugin to hook into browsers and provide functionality.  Depending on system specs, I sometimes cannot download the plugin directly from the browser and thus I resort to the standalone player/plugin from adobe.com. But that combo is browser specific.  There is a third option which is just a standalone flash player for desktop functionality with no plugins included but this should be avoided at all costs.

There is also the shockwave player and plugin which is different from flash and should also be installed.

So, you need successful installations of the plugin per browser at a minimum. If the plugins won't install for whatever reason then try the standalone player, latest version, from adobe and not from third parties.

However, at this point you have uninstalled, reinstalled, and reuninstalled so many times that I'm worried there is a deeper underlying problem or you have registry corruption or both.  The advice above is mainly correct and should have resolved your problem. That it hasn't indicates the next steps are more invasive, like registry cleaning or a full reinstall of the OS.

Sorry, I wish there was a simple resolution that I could just type out for you and have you follow it.

How does MSE, UAC, and Windows Firewall know that www dot adobe dot com is a trusted site?

If I remember correctly, MSE and the firewall were not the issues.
Disabling the UAC let Flash be downloaded from the Adobe site.

Adobe publishes a certificate that verifies authenticity and the browsers and operating systems have to be able to read the cert.

I'm sorry, but this is as far as I can go.  I'm not a windows OS guru and even if I were, I skipped vista entirely due to the bugs.

Since it only happens with Firefox (the errors), I did not think it was an O/S issue.
It might be an OS issue in the sense that Vista is deeply flawed. So you may be seeing some weird interaction between Firefox, Vista and the plugin process.

I'm sure it did, but I'm not saying "It's Vista's fault entirely" just that you may be seeing something specific to the interaction of the three programs or it's something corrupted on your system.

SWF stands for "Shockwave Flash" and refers to a compiled and ready to deploy Flash file.
