Netgear FVS318 Firewall - Looking for compatible VPN client software

I have an old Netgear FVS318 Firewall.  It sure looks like it's configurable for VPN client software.

http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/999/~/how-to-connect-netgear-vpn-client-software-to-fvs318-or-fvm318-routers

The site recommends Netgear VPN client at $80 a license.  Can I make one of the open-source clients or the Cisco client work with FVS318 instead?  For example:

OpenVPN
LogMeIn
ShrewSoft
...

Will all of these be compatible with my FVS318?

The Netgear VPN is designed to work with the SafeNet VPN IPSec VPN client. This is also sold under the names: Netgear Prosafe, Watchguard MUVPN, and one other who's name slips my mind now. Cisco will not work.
You can also use TheGreenBow client

Instructions:

All of these cost $50 - $75

There are those that report they have configured the Netgear FVS318 to work with the ShrewSoft VPN client, but documentation is scarce. You may be able to use the following as a guide, but it is not specifically for your router:

I believe ShrewSoft is the only free client that will work. Keep in mind though, should you want support from Netgear they will only support the Netgear Prosafe VPN client.
