Verizon FIOS

Is it possible to use Verizon FIOS without using the router that they supply?  I have verizon business FIOS internet with a static IP.  I currently use a Juniper SSG-20, and would like to assign the IP on eth0/0.  I've plugged the CAT5e from the FIOS box on the wall directly into eth0/0.  The right light is solid green the left light on the port blinks green and is then out perminantly.  I setup the IP/netmask/gateway on eth0/0, but it doesn't work.

Am I wasting my time trying to figure this out, or am I just doing something wrong?

I am including my comment in the solution becuase it completes the answer.  The first comment brought my attention to the ability of the Verizon routers to go into bridge mode.  The second comment gave a link to documentation from verizon on how to accomplish the task.  However, bridge mode is only needed when the connection coming out of the fios box is coax.  In my case, and I assume every case where you are getting FIOS internet and no TV, it was a CAT5 connection.
