500 internet server error only when attempting to search
I get a 500 internet server error only when attempting an internet search from any search engine and in any browser.

Check your Lan settings for proxy. In internet explorer, click Tools\Internet Options, click on connections tab, then click on Lan Settings, and make sure unneeded proxy settings are not there. You can check "automatically detect settings"

no proxy, I can get to websites. but can not search. I checked automatically detect settings. it just took longer to go to 500 error screen.

expert lead me to check host file. that sent me to search host file restore which lead me to mr. fixit.
