TIME MACHINE - EMAIL ALERTS

We are looking to setup email alerts everytime a mac has backed up through time machine.  Can this be done?  Is there any 3rd party software out there that will allow it to send email alerts when completed, and let us know if it has failed or completed?

On a standard OSX computer there is NO notification for Time Machine if it fails .. an alert may appear on the screen but that is about it.

The transactions on Time machine are stored in the System Log
/var/log/system.log

In Terminal you can run the following command to see what is going on.
sudo grep backupd /var/log/system.log

There is a great little application called TM Error Logger which I believe supports email notifications and also helps view the errors when a backup fails

Keep in mind, that a successful backup will take place every hour that the compouter is in use. That could be an annoying pile of emails. Perhaps if you use an automator script or Applescript, you can set it email on the first successful backup of each day.
