Hi

This option is not free, but it is very advanced.
We use MS SCSM (System Centre Service Manager) with Provance Asset management.
I have connectors from SCSM into our SCCM and SCOM systems and AD. SCSM might be over kill as it is a full house app to do Service desk and Asset management according to ITIL best practise.

Depending on your network setup you could also look into SysAid (under 25 PC's it is free)

I tried spiceworks and I love it. The only problem is that once you run a inventory of a network you cant do it with the same machine on another network. I would love to take my notebook and run an inventory on all my client sites and spiceworks would be ideal.

I should have been clear myself. Sorry about that.

For that purpose you could also try "AngryIP scanner" (freeware). it is not as detailed as spiceworks but it should pickup any IP device on the network within the specified range. it is small and easy to use.
