Citrix Xenserver 5.5 upgrade to 6.0.0

Ok, I have a Citirx envrionment running 5 VM's. I have a upgrade notice to upgrade Xenserver to version 6.0.0.

I upgraded XenCenter to 6.0.0 which is obviously easy, but I dont understand upgrading Xenserver.

It seems to me that Xenserver is the OS that run's the VM's. If I upgrde Xenserver what affect does it have on my VM's?

Take a look at page 29 of the installation guide. You can do an upgrade on a server with local VM's, you just need to shut them down.

If you want to be extra careful, you can export the VM's prior to the upgrade so you have a backup copy.

Download the XenServer 6 ISO and burn it to a CD.
On all VMs, eject any media from the CD/DVD drive.
Shutdown or suspend all VMs on the host.
Insert the XenServer 6 CD.
Restart the host.
Make sure the host boots from the CD.
Follow the install prompts AND MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE UPGRADE OPTION.
Remove the CD when it is ejected.
Restart the host.
Power on or resume your VMs.
Install the new XenTools in every VM (WARNING: will install .NET 4 Framework)

Nice seems easy enough. I was mostly just worried whther or not the VM's would be affected.
