Windows 7 Drivers

Hello Experts,

I'm creating an application that will allow the end user to select a printer to install to his/her computer. I created batch files that handle this but I need to piont to a driver for that batch file to use. My problem that I face is that I'm working with a good amount of HP Laserjet Printers and HP does not have drivers for Windows 7 x32 or x64 that I can just download. I have read that HP tells people that Windows 7 will detect the printer and install the appriopriate dirver for the device. My question is how can I find those drivers within the OS?

Did you think about Universal Drivers. Go to any laserjet printer's download page and find HP Universal Drivers. 1 Driver will work with all laserjet family. You need to use 32 and 64 bit seperately.

Hi teomcam,

I did see the Software - Universal Print Driver and I did download that file. Problem is, is that I'm not sure how to get that file nor do I see any kind of driver .ini file which is what I believe is the drivers driver extension or maybe it's .inf.

If I understood you correcty, Download universal driver and install it on any machine. Then find a free version of driver backup software and backup them. With this way you will have all extracted drivers set in one folder. If you dont wanna bother using driver backup software go to System32/Drivers and only the most modified files whihc will be your universal printer drivers.

The drivers HP is talking about for Windows 7 are not IN the OS, per se ... they are downloaded from Windows Update.  You might be able to find an individual update file there to download to stage for these machines.

No, I install laser jet 4250 then it automatically installs a driver for it. Also I cannot find a driver for either 32 or 64 bit windows 7.

Hi,

If you already installed drivers then second step is using a driver backup software to fetch the drivers file that you need.
Please visit following link and choice the one of the free driver backup software. After that you will have pure driver files.

That did not work. I downloaded a few of those programs and neither of them found the HP LaserJet 4250 driver. I'm connected throught it via IP Address.

The download link you posted is a self extracting zip file which contains everything you need for x64 OS's.  You will also need the x86 (32bit) file.
Get a copy of 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/download.html ), install it, then right click on each download and choose 7-zip -> Extract to "upd-(rest of folder name).  Afterwards, you can rename the folder to anything you like and then use it in your BAT file.
