I have developed a ssrs report (rdl) and it's subreports in BIDS 2008.  Upon upload of the report and subreports to the report server along with images (in a separate folder), the report is rendered successfully with the desired data and all images.  However, when exporting to PDF or invoking the report via the report viewer with PDF output, the subreport's body image is not presented while the main report image and report, subreport data fields display OK.  Image sources are 'External' and the image path is specified starting with a '/' for the home directory.

Are the subreport(the drill report) is being hidden with toggling property? If yes, try making them visible and try again.
If not, then export the report to excel and check if you are able to see everything.

Thanks TempDBA, I am not toggling visibility of the subreport and I will try your suggestion.

As a test, I created a fresh SSRS project in BIDS and added simple main and sub reports.  I added an image to the subreport body background and retested.  The subreport background displayed OK in the PDF.  So, I am thinking that one of the original reports may be 'corrupted' as a result of switching from embedded image to external.  My next step will be to recreate the subreport in my original project.  I will report status later today.

Update: we have deployed the report and subreports to a new report server.  The background image for the subreport are displayed and are included in the exported PDF.  Both of the report servers that are working correcting (with regard to the images) are SQL 2008 R2 while the server that fails to include the background image is simply SQL 2008.  This may be an indicator that the issue is SQL version related.
