Windows 2008 R2 RDP CALS vs. Windows 2008 RDP User CALS?

Hi all,

I'm setting up a Windows 2008 R2 server for Remote Desktop Services and I want to install a 5-user license pack. Someone told me today that I need to be careful about what licenses I buy -- that a Windows 2008 RDP CAL will not work on a WIndows 2008 R2 server. Is this true? Sounds kind of hard to believe, but his comment made me want to at least check it out.

Thanks,

Tom

Here's what they say at Microsoft:

If in doubt, however, I would talk with my MS sales mgr.  They were very helpful in clarifying similar  licensing matters for me a couple of yrs ago.

Hope this helps.
