Asus G51VX Laptop losing Time and Date with resulting pproblems.
Got the back off finally using this G50 Disassembly guide.

Asus usually make their machines well, and even in those cases you have to take them apart it is usually easier to do than with other brands...
Maybe you can get to it by removing the keyboard, and then the aluminum plate under that (from the pictures I'm not sure though). There then seems to be some aluminum foil stuck over the area where the battery is, which you can probably also lift away from the board (it's probably sticky on the other side).

That was it.
It wasn't bad taking it apart and putting it back together once I found those instructions. Asus appearently doesn't believe in anyone but them repairing their laptops.
I have to say that if it weren't for you guys and an Asus Gaming forum I never would have found this.
I do small home/office installations and repairs, first time I've had one of these machines. Owned by a retired Swedish guy who's son bought it for him.

Glad you were able to get it done...Thanks for the points! Laptop repair is not so bad these days...
Also once you've worked on a handful of them...taking them apart, you get used to it and it's not so scary anymore.

I've worked on a lot of laptops but never an Asus gaming machine.
Just checking out an HP laptop with same problems.
The standard CR2302 is visible right in with the Memory.
I'm just saying I wouldn't recommend one of these for your average user.
If I was an tweaker and overclocker, I'd probably have one of these.
Been a member since 2002 and have never been let down.

It looks like I've got to pretty much disassemble the entire case just to get to the CMOS battery.
Can't believe Asus would design something like this.
It is a pretty high end machine.
No other easier way?
