excel document sharing

we have an excel document that needs to be shared between about 4 people in the office.
all 4 people want to contribute to this document, but sometimes they are wanting to contribute at the same time, but can't, so they have to wait until the person that is in it is done and closes the document
the document is on a windows file share.
is there some way to make it so they could all use the document whenever they need to?

That info is a little dated, if you are using Excel 2010, you will need to go to the 'review' tab and you will see an option on the toolbar for 'share workbook'.  
I would also set up some sort of constant backup on this workbook.  I can't count the times that someone who is using it, goofs up and erases the entire spreadsheet, and everyone in the group wants to murder them.  A good shadow protect constant backup of the file can resolve this issue.
