Windows CA Server migration

all,

I have a client that is utilizing their Exchange server as a CA server for EFS.  I've read a few articles about migrating this server, and how it should have the same name, but it kind of can't.  has anyone performed a CA migration that can rpvide any guidance?

You backup the existing CA and restore it on different server.

Are you looking at setting up a subordinated CA on the new server and then when you upgrade/udate the exchange migrate it to a new named host and then virtualize the old host as a CA?

NO Exchange is being split onto 4 server 2 mailbox, 2 CAS/Transport all redundant.  the old Exchanges server is the CA, and is being decommissioned.

If the exchange is gone, are you looking to setup the new CA as a VM in which case you can name it the same as the old exchange without exchange and restore the CA from backup.

OK, I'll see if the client will go for that.

WE are just rebuilding to EFS system with a new CA.  They did not go for keeping the same sever and visualizing it.  Thank you though
